For a while now I've been obsessing over the idea of freedom. Realizing that a lot of my dreams - walking the Appalachian Trail, owning large tracts of undeveloped land, amongst other things; are all descendent from a deeper feeling I have about freedom.
Don't get me wrong, I very much appreciate the freedoms we have here in the States that almost everywhere else lacks, but I'm talking about a very different kind of freedom. I'm talking about the kind of freedom that doesn't see me in the jurisdiction of any government. Not anarchy either.
I've known of a few people who have had similar dreams and found their own outlets... offshore oil rigs - south pacific islands. I don't know that that is the route for me. I am in many ways a social creature and those solutions aren't exactly conducive to any sort of society.
But I do long for blue skys and mountains without the worry of eminant domain. Or the thought that I am a passive participant in things that aren't what I condone; be it war, welfare, or corporate greed. The days of riding into he sunset are somewhat over.
